Calibrate Background Picture (Map menu)

This command presents a dialog that allows you to match locations on the map with points on the picture. (If a Picture World File is available for the background picture, use it instead of this process.) At this time, there is no way to adjust the angle of the picture or the angle of the coordinate system within Visual Sample Plan. Therefore, the picture must be exactly aligned with north at the top and south at the bottom.

The picture calibration is a two-point process. It requires you to match two different map locations to points on the picture.

If more than one background picture is loaded, all background pictures that are selected (checked) in the Layer Control will be calibrated as well.

Use the following process to calibrate the picture:

  1. Enter the map coordinates (x and y) for Calibration Point 1. Calibration Point 1 must be south and west (below and left) of Calibration Point 2.

  2. Enter the map coordinates (x and y) for Calibration Point 2. Calibration Point 2 must be north and east (above and right) of Calibration Point 1.

  3. For Calibration Point 1, press the Click on Picture button. Then use the scope cursor (a circle with cross-hairs) to left-click with the mouse on the background picture at the visual point where Calibration Point 1 should exist. You can use the zoom and pan functions during this process.

  4. For Calibration Point 2, press the Click on Picture button. Then use the scope cursor (a circle with cross-hairs) to left-click with the mouse on the background picture at the visual point where Calibration Point 2 should exist. You can use the zoom and pan functions during this process.

  5. When all of the above steps are correctly completed (they can be completed in any order), the Calibrate button will be enabled. Pressing the Calibrate button will match the coordinates to the background picture and redraw the map using the new coordinates.

  6. Close the Calibrate Background Picture dialog.
