Source data grid

Displays the raw source data in rows and columns. Click on the column header to select which columns are used to "Match" a sample area, and which columns will be used to change parameters of the sample areas.  Column widths can be adjusted by dragging on the column head dividers.

Destination data grid

Shows the Area ID, Area Name and the old and new parameter values for every sample area that will be modified.  Select the "Match" column on the source data grid to control which sample areas are modified.

Procedure:

(This example uses the TwoFloorBuilding.vsp project file and the TwoFloorBuilding.txt data file that were installed with VSP in your "My Documents"\Visual Sample Plan folder.)

1. Import data by clicking the Paste button to get data from the clipboard, or by clicking the Import button to select a text file.

2. Select a "Match" column by clicking the Header for one of the columns of source data and choosing which sample area parameter to compare against.  This "Match" column determines which sample area the parameters will be loaded into.  In this example, the first column is "Matched" to the Sample Area Name.  This is a typical mapping that ensures that the source data will go to the sample area with the corresponding name.

3. Select which source columns will be used to set which sample area parameters by clicking on the Headers for the source data.  In this example, the second column will be used to set the "Include Floors" flag of the selected sample areas.

4. Preview the outgoing data on the Destination data grid.  If the data are not matching up, it may be that the "Match" column is not properly set (step 2). You may also need to select the Ignore Header Row check box.   Make sure the correct sample area parameters are being modified (step 3).

5. Click the OK button to update the sample area parameters.  The first column of the source data is used to find a sample area with that name.  If found, the value from the second column of source data is used to set the "Include Floors" flag of that sample area.  This example should modify the Floor-2 rooms, setting alternating room "Include Floor" flags on and off.
